About Cameron County Airport
Cameron County Airport is a thriving general aviation airport serving Cameron County and the surrounding Rio Grande Valley (RGV) in southeast Texas. The airport features two runways, with primary Runway 13-31 measuring 8,001 feet in length – the second-longest runway in the RGV – and crosswind Runway 17-35 measuring 4,200 feet long. Two additional runways designated 8-26 and 3-21 are currently in the process of being decommissioned. The airport is capable of accommodating a wide range of general aviation aircraft, from single engine piston airplanes up to large, cabin-class business jets. Available services/amenities include a well-equipped terminal building and FBO services.
The airport sponsor, Cameron County, has contracted with Coffman Associates, a national airport consulting firm, to update its Airport Layout Plan (ALP). The ALP, along with a narrative report, is a document that will ultimately guide the direction of the airport when considering current and potential future demand, airfield efficiency and safety, land use on and around the airport, and future growth and revenue-generating opportunities. The ALP with Narrative is a proactive document that plans for future facility needs to ensure the airport sponsor can coordinate project approvals, design, financing, and construction. The ultimate goal is to provide systematic guidelines for the airport’s overall maintenance, development, and operation, all while taking into consideration the community it serves.
About the ALP Update
An Airport Layout Plan (ALP) and Narrative is a document that helps to guide the direction of public use airports, such Cameron County Airport, by looking at factors such as:
- Current and potential future demand
- Efficiency and safety of airport operations
- Land use on and around the airport
- Future growth and ways to generate revenue.
It is a proactive document that identifies and then plans for future facility needs to ensure that airport management can coordinate project approvals, design, financing, and construction to avoid experiencing detrimental effects due to inadequate facilities.
The ultimate goal of the study is to provide systematic guidelines for the airport’s overall maintenance, development, and operation, all while taking into consideration the community it serves.
